After my death our beloved Church abroad will break three ways ... first the Greeks will leave us as they were never a part of us ... then those who live for this world and its glory will go to Moscow ... what will remain will be those souls faithful to Christ and His Church. ~St. Philaret of NY

Dear-in Christ, Everyone,

Bless!  First of  all, as we will have little time during the rest of the day, may I greet all our parishioners, supporters, helpers, friends and acquaintances in anticipation with the joyous Easter greeting:

Christ is Risen!
Truly, He is Risen!

May the joy of the festival and its grace lighten your paths in life ii the days and years ahead.

But let us look a some words of Saint Ambrose of Milan, which tell us how to approach this feast in order to be benefitted deeply and spiritually, keeping it not simply as a folk custom or as an occasion for worldly celebration.  He writes:

"There are some, dearly beloved, who seem to be seeking the Lord, but since they are slothful and strangers to virtue, they do not deserve to find Him; nor, when found, to see Him.  What, however, were these holy women [the Myrrhbearers] seeking at the tomb, if not the Body of the Lord Jesus?  And you, what is it you are seeking in the Church if not Jesus, that is, the Saviour?  But if you wish to find Him, the Sun now being risen, then come as these women came; that is, let there be no darkness of evil in your hearts; for the desires of the flesh and the works that are evil are darkness.  They in whose hearts there is darkness of this kind see not the light, and understand not Christ, for Christ is the Light.  Therefore, drive the darkness from you, brethren, that is, all sinful desires and all evil works, and provide yourselves with sweet spices, that is earnest prayers, saying with the Psalmist: Let my prayer, O Lord, be set forth as incense before Thee" (Ps. 140:2).

In the love of our Risen Saviour,

St. John: Before the Shroud

St. Ioann, arhiyep. Shanghai and San Francisco († 1966): Before the Shroud

Author: Nun Faith incl. . Posted in Archive ROCOR (Views: 14)

Mournful gathering. A sad sight. Before us is a dead man, moreover, an extraordinary dead man. The King of heaven and earth, the Creator of the whole universe, lies before us. For us He died. We have sinned, but He suffered. People violated the banishment of God, they departed from God, and God, wishing to attract Himself to Him with His love, suffers and dies for them. God could not suffer and die with the Divine, therefore he incarnates, and suffers and dies with his human nature, without ceasing to be God. All this He does for us, to show His love for us.

How thankful to Him our hearts must be filled!

How can we thank Him with dignity?

His flowers are brought to the grave, they are kindled. He is holy. The Lord also does not reject these sacrifices, but He wants the other from us, and only with Him will he accept the rest of the offering. Son, give Me your heart, "God said through another Holy Letter of the Old Oneslaught. Our Lord is waiting for our hearts; This is what we must give to Him. To love to keep and teach him and to fulfill them is a gratitude to the Victim for us, which is pleasing and pleasing to Him.

Approaching to kiss the face of the lifeless Savior, let us firmly resolve to follow the path indicated by Him. And if we have to endure adversities and difficulties in this way, Christ Himself will be the helper, who will be crucified with Him and will give them endless blessings in His heavenly Kingdom, which we also will be honored. Amen.

Christ our first Teacher on the end times

Two verses from Great Compline Monday Holy Week
(Let those who say we should not concern ourselves with end times teaching be shutted up.)

O Jesus, beyond measure is Thy love for mankind!  For Thou hast made known to us the appointed time when the end of the world shall come to pass, though Thou hast hidden the hour from us, yet Thou hast plainly revealed the signs which shall precede its coming.
Canticle Two,Triodion page 520

When the Teacher spoke of flight on the Sabbath and in the winter, He foretold darkly, as in a riddle, the storm of the present age, which is the seventh day of the week, when the end shall come as the winter.

For all the bad news and bad trends of the 21st Century, the Psaltic Arts is receiving unprecedented upsurge in the United States --all the English adaptations, the upsurge in people interested in the Psaltic Arts, increased availability of instruction, a newly vital and resurgent Psaltic music diploma program at HCHC (SPOTS, Maybe?????).

A group of colleagues of mine are now putting together a "Psaltic Wiki".  It is yet to be populated, but those of things fill up quite quickly.

The Doxastikon of Holy Wednesday's Bridegroom Orthros. The arrangement is a hybrid composite of one of the settings in Kypsele and an arrangement of Protopsaltis Konstantine Lagouris of Montreal. I recorded this as a multitrack (pardon the timing boo-boos)to illuminate the the group singing against the sections that I assigned for a monophonarios to chant alone. A great deal was modelled after the choir chanting by my friend and colleague Stelios Kontakiotis, the former protopsaltis of the choir in Washington, DC that laureate protopsaltis Harilaos Papastolou founded so many many years ago, and now for many years protopsaltis of the parish on the Island of TInos.

(X) St. Philaret On the Raising of Lazarus

This sermon will not be saved here because I have it archived on another blog:
http://blessedphilaret.blogspot.com/2013/08/lazarus-saturday.html

ON THE RAISING OF LAZARUS
What an amazing miracle this was! The Gospels tell us that our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, resurrected three people: first, the daughter of Jairus, the head of the synagogue, second, a young man, the son of the widow of Nain, and, finally, Lazarus. It is interesting to note the upward progression from one miracle to the next. The first resurrection was of a young girl, the daughter of Jairus, who had just died at the time. The Lord went to their house and brought her back to life. The young man of Nain was already being taken to the cemetery, the funeral procession having just gone out of the gates of town with his corpse. It was there that death which had already taken place met Life Who happened to be passing by, and Life overcame death. As for Lazarus, the Gospel tells us clearly that he had been dead for four days, and his body had already started to decay. That is why this miracle is so striking. Yet, the enemies of Christ denying His miracles try to explain them all away with natural causes. They claim that Christ knew some sort of secret science of healing, or that Lazarus had not actually died, but was just in a deep state of unconsciousness. They say that since Christ was very knowledgeable and had learned many things, He could also bring a person in a deep sleep back to life. However, they simply could not come to terms with what happened to Lazarus, for what kind of sleep could this be, when Lazarus had already begun to decompose when the Lord resurrected him?!
We should remember, dear brothers and sisters, that for good reason the Church sings in the troparion these words: “In confirming the common Resurrection, O Christ God, Thou didst raise up Lazarus from the dead”. What does this mean? It means ‘Christ God, by raising Lazarus You attest to all that a general resurrection from the dead will take place’. The Lord Jesus Christ performed this astonishing miracle to show all of us that there WILL be a general resurrection, and that, in due time, as the Lord sees fit (we do not know when this will be), we will all die at some point and then come back to life in the general resurrection.
The Lord is concerned for His faithful. He knows how difficult death is for people and how we perceive it as such a threat to our existence. Therefore, He shows us in actual deed what the resurrection of the dead will be like. He Himself said that those in the tombs will emerge at the sound of the voice of the Son of God, and, indeed, in this case, He spoke, and at His voice the one who had been dead and partially decomposed came forth healthy, whole, and unharmed.
Let us remember that the Lord performed this miracle to assure us that there will be a general resurrection. Nowadays many people have lost faith and no longer believe in the truth of the miracles described in the Gospels. You can see for yourselves what is happening around us. Yet, this miracle should put the soul of a believer completely at rest, for the Lord clearly said, “He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live” (Jn. 11:25). This is certainly very reassuring. When the Lord was speaking with Martha before the raising of Lazarus and said, “Your brother will rise again”, she said, “I know that he will rise again in the general resurrection at the last day when we will all be resurrected”. She answered correctly, for she had heard His teaching before. And the Lord said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live” (Jn. 11:25). Therefore, knowing what Christ promised us in the New Testament and knowing about His miracles, let this be our comfort and firm support of our faith and relief in sorrow when we are seeing off our departed ones. As the Lord raised Lazarus, He will raise us also, in due time, as He sees fit. Amen.

Sermon: On the Cross (Bishop Joseph)

ON THE CROSS

Saint Theophan the Recluse, the great instructor of our Russian people on faith
and piety, said that the Cross of Christ has three parts. The cross that each Christian
ought to bear in his life also has three parts. Interestingly, the actual wood of the Cross
was made up of wood from three different kinds of trees, a fact that was prophetically
foretold. In bearing the cross, all parts merge into one.

The first cross is the cross of fallen mankind, about which the Holy Apostle Paul
says: “For the good that I would, I do not; but the evil I would not, that I do” (Rom.
7:19). This is the consequence of the ancestral sin that is passed down through
generations.

The second cross is what we usually refer to as our daily cross. This is the sum
total of all our sorrows, all the problems and difficulties, of which our life is full. This is
exactly what is meant by ‘bearing one’s cross’. However, there is more to this. St.
Theophan says that as soon as a person who is surrounded on all sides by sorrows, illness,
and problems gives himself over to the will of God with his whole heart and soul,
acknowledging that the Lord does everything for the good and accepting as good
whatever is sent to him on this way of the cross, as soon as he says this in his heart, then
everything changes, as if he had waved a magic wand. Nothing around him has changed,
but everything is seen in a different light. What Elder Ambrose of Optina said is very
pertinent here: “What will be, will be, and what will be is what God gives, and God does
everything for the good”.

Then there is the third, or central part of the cross. With great humility St.
Theophan the Recluse says of this cross, “This cross is known only to a person who is
already spiritually advanced. He has already overcome all temptations and deals easily
with all problems. However, there are temptations of a higher order, those of pride, of
exalting oneself before others, thinking oneself to be better and higher than everyone
else. This is the most difficult cross and is known only to a person who has overcome it
with much a great deal of effort”.

St. Theophan teaches that a Christian must bear his cross. A person’s life begins
under the cross in the baptismal font, and then a cross is worn around his neck. When he
is buried, the cross that he took up goes with him, and a cross is placed over his grave
showing that the dust of a believing Christian lies there. Let us remember this, and bear
our cross which gives a person strength and saves him amidst all of life’s difficulties. Let
the Christian never forget the power of the Cross, and through it the Lord will always
keep him from every misfortune. Amen.

Trump Supporters Question the Syria Strike

Did Trump get a spell put on him?
One indication that a person has been put under witchcraft is when they do a sudden overnight "about face" change and do something(s) completely out of character (always ultimately for the worse).  We saw such flip-flops like this in almost half of our ROCOR hierarchs/clergy with the ROCOR-MP union.   All the world's leaders will be corrupt before Antichrist appears on the world stage.   I guess, if a leader is not already corrupt, then he will be made corrupt by the demons that are experts at corrupting men.  President Trump is a sincere heterodox Christian, but without the Church, how can he withstand the wiles of the demons serving Antichrist in these end times?
